Juniper launches high speed firewalls

Juniper Networks has introduced two new firewall products focusing on the high end of the technology market.

The SRX 5600 and 5800 series run on Juniper’s JUNOS software, an operating system with speeds exceeding 120 Gbps.

According to Richard Savage senior systems engineer, compared to other traditional brands, it is one of the ‘highest performance firewall service in the industry.’

He said the products have taken two to three years to make.

“We are really excited about this. We have been waiting quite some time and it is the beginning of the next generation of network security,” he said.

Savage said the reason behind the launch was because the company wants to make a dramatic push forward for firewall technology.

“We are taking the next step in the evolution of platform security. Putting a security device out there with this amount of power in the network is going to make a huge difference, said Savage.

"It will benefit the vertical sector such as banks and the education sector looking for high performance platforms and bringing this to the network core,” he added.

Savage said there were no new opportunities for signing on additional partners at this stage.

“We are targeting our partners who work in the high performance networking sector. There are no opportunities for new partners at this stage as we will be working our existing partners that we have been able to leverage the market with,” he said.

“The product is based on the JUNOS system. Our current partners won’t have any difficulty in coming up to speed with the platform.

“Resellers who are up to speed with the firewall platform can look at ways of generating new business.

“We are out there pushing the boundaries with security, something new that we can take to our customers. A huge commitment has been made in getting this right. There is a big push into the data centre market at the moment,” he added.

In addition to offering firewall services, the SRX series has an Intrusion Prevention System (IPS), Distributed Denial of Service (DDos/DoS) protection, Network Address Translation (NAT), dynamic routing, and Quality of Service (QoS).
