New worm targets notworking sites

The worms reportedly transform victim machines into zombie computers and form a network of botnets.

Net-WormWin32.Koobface.a generates a slew of commentaries when a MySpace account is accessed. Similarly, Win32.Koobface.b formulates a number of spam messages and sends them to the infected users' friends via Facebook.

Examples include the following grammatically incorrect witticisms: Paris Hilton Tosses Dwarf On The Street; Examiners Caught Downloading Grades From The Internet; Hello; You must see it!!! LOL. My friend catched you on hidden cam; Is it really celebrity? Funny Moments.

Spam messages on both MySpace and Facebook include a link to a number of Youtube pages. Users that attempt to view the purported clip on the site are instructed to download the latest version of Flash player.

However, a network worm with the file name of codesetup.exe is downloaded to the victim's machine instead.

Alexander Gostev, Senior Virus Analyst at Kaspersky Lab, noted that the new worms were "simply the first step" and emphasized that virus writers will " continue to target these resources with increased intensity".
