Check Point to secure iPhones

Security software developer Check Point has released a product designed to secure iPhones, allowing them secure access to corporate networks.

Check Point VPN-1 will allow for encrypted connections between enterprise iPhone users and a VPN gateway, the company said in a statement earlier this week. This means that users will be able to send and receive email, as well as access company applications or portals without the need for any additional software.

“With the success of the iPhone, IT departments received multiple requests to connect the new devices to the corporate network,” said Bob Egner, vice president of product management at Check Point.

“The diversity of personal equipment in the work place makes the enforcement of security policies difficult. We offer security solutions and single management across the many endpoint devices available to corporate professionals. For the iPhone, Check Point created a simple configuration that provides instant, secure connectivity through VPN-1 gateways.”

iPhone users must visit the Check Point web site to download and install an update which will enable the service, configuration is up to the end user, but the firm described it as 'easy'.
