Buzznet buys Stereogum music blog

Buzznet, a music-oriented social networking community, has completed its acquisition of music blog Stereogum, a top web destination for pop-punk and alternative rock fans and artists..

The deal will see the launch on 8 April of Videogum, an entertainment blog focusing on pop culture programming, including TV, movies, web shorts and video games.

The deal is part of Buzznet's planned expansion into additional music genres.

"Stereogum is the most respected voice on the web covering music and is well regarded by consumers, artists and advertisers," said Scott Boyd, Buzznet's general manager.

"This acquisition is a perfect fit for us and a natural next step in our strategy as we expand our music coverage.

"Our understanding of the music experience fans want has made our communities the most popular on the web, and we are excited to add such an influential voice to the Buzznet family."

Stereogum founder Scott Lapatine added: "Buzznet has a world class social platform and we have already taken advantage of their vast resources to build a great new look for the blog, as well as launch an entirely new community.

"Buzznet will be instrumental in creating new features and functionality that will take Stereogum to a whole new level while allowing us to maintain our unique voice and independence."
