  Editor's Note

Good afternoon,

Today we publish the first in a series of opinion columns penned by Deakin University's William Confalonieri, whom the industry dubbed 'CIO of the Year' at the iTnews Benchmark Awards in February.

Confalonieri's piece is timely: today we learn of another high profile CIO leaving his role, adding to a long list of executives that have quit or been replaced this year. It's also a timely reminder to submit your Benchmark Awards submission for a project you've delivered during 2014. The deadline is the end of November.

Stay tuned for Parts II and III of William's blog series over the course of the week.

Will there be any major CIOs left standing at the end of this year? Seems a complete changeover in many sectors.
