EDITOR'S NOTE

Good morning,

If we had published a year in review on the topic of cloud computing in 2010, no doubt most of our stories would have referred to services offered overseas and the potential for such an industry at home.

In 2011, the likes of Telstra, Ninefold and Atlassian provided some fresh alternatives for the local market. There are new data centres being built in just about every capital city, and start-ups are being tempted by offers of free hosting.

Meanwhile, our focus at iTnews expanded beyond breaking the news and we delivered free, independent research around cloud contracts, integration and availability.

I get the feeling that we're barely halfway through the journey - enterprise customers are going to demand better terms and features, and cloud providers are going to have to work on service reliability and automation.
