After eight years of operation, Compuware has decided to shut up shop on recently acquired Proxima Technology, effectively axing 26 of its staff.

Compuware axes 26 local jobs
Compuware purchased the US-based software house in January of this year for US$31 million.

The cuts come as Compuware looks to concentrate and centralise its development efforts to its headquarters in Detroit. According to a press release issued by the company, this will reduce its operating costs by US$13 million

The job cuts mean that the Sydney-based development team will no longer be responsible for the Vantage Service Manager product. Production will now be conducted at Compuware’s headquarters in Detroit.

The Vantage Service Manager allows IT function to align services around business-critical objectives with a real-time, comprehensive picture of service delivery, helping IT managers to determine the root cause of under-performing applications.

Thirty-three software development staff will be affected by the closure with 26 of them having to find new jobs. The remaining seven are relocating from Proxima's old premises in Sydney city to Compuware's facilities in North Ryde.

Compuware CIO Chris Bockhausen, said in a statement that the centralisation of the company’s product development would deliver additional efficiencies to its business and strengthen technical integration.

"The company will continue to invest significantly in the technical excellence of these strategic solutions and will maintain superior levels of support for all Compuware customers, during and after this transition," he said.

Compuware has also shut up shop in Cambridge, Massachusetts and in Dublin, Ireland where it worked on its Strobe product and Optimal Trace product respectively. Globally, 100 staff will be affected by the relocations.
