Deal with Tamworth Regional Council worth $1.8 million over three years.

Telstra land bumper council deal
Telco giant Telstra has been selected by Tamworth Regional Council to supply its entire telecommunications services contract, valued at an estimated $1.8 million over three years.

The new managed contract will see Telstra provide all fixed voice, data and mobile services to the council and introduce Telstra's Next G network mobile services to staff.

Geoff Booth, managing director of Telstra Country Wide said the latest tender win was an endorsement of Telstra's ability to deliver a range of business services to its customers.

"This is a great start to the year for Telstra in the fiercely competitive telecommunications market. The fact that the agreement covers managed mobile services as well as fixed voice and data services demonstrates Telstra's ability to provide a one-stop-shop for the full range of telecommunications needs," he said.

Booth added staff at the council will be using Telstra’s Next G network for voice and wireless data services, while examining the possibility of using the technology for telemetry applications in the future.

Councillor James Treloar, Tamworth regional council mayor, said the decision to award Telstra Country Wide its total telecommunications business was made after intense scrutiny of the ability of the various telco providers to fulfil the council's specific needs.

"Telecommunications services are an important part of our operations and we have to set very stringent requirements to make sure that our telco provider is able to put in place solutions that are efficient, reliable and robust," said Councillor Treloar.

"More importantly, we placed great emphasis in finding a partner that will be responsive to our needs. We believe that Telstra Country Wide embodies all the qualities we look for in a regional partner," he added.
