The new licensing model charges a fee based on the number of concurrent users for one of three software bundles ranging from "essentials" to "advanced enterprise". The old model charged a flat fee based on the modules that a company uses.
The new license will be available worldwide on 1 August. Prices start at US$2,250. Existing customers can choose between the old and new licensing model.
Microsoft promised that users will pay less under the new model for a typical entry level configuration and claimed that the new licensing structure is less complicated than the old one.
The Dynamics product contains the Microsoft Dynamics AX, GP, NAV and SL products, formerly known as Axapta, Great Plains, Navision and Solomon respectively. Microsoft acquired the products through a series of acquisitions and working to merge the products into a single software suite.
The license also includes updates and offers credit for customers who switch between two of Microsoft's ERP suites.
Microsoft added that it plans to add its customer relation management (CRM) functionality under the same license model within the next 12 months.
