Internode ramps up ADSL2+ deployment

Internode has announced that it has accelerated the roll-out of its ADSL2+ services across Australia's East Coast.

The Adelaide-based ISP has flagged a jump in the number of its planned telephone exchanges from 67 to 113.

The eastern seaboard will benefit most from the ramp-up with an additional 14 exchanges planned for Melbourne, 12 for Sydney, five for Canberra, and seven for Brisbane.

Internode managing director Simon Hackett said in a statement that the company expected to have ADSL2+ services in most of these new exchanges by the end of the year.

“Because of strong demand, we are including additional exchanges in the CBD areas of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra,” he said in a statement. “We are also undertaking significant regional expansion in SA.”

Hackett said the accelerated roll-out signalled Internode’s confidence in the strong demand for high-speed access services.

“Neither the downturn seen by some other providers nor Telstra’s attempts to sabotage competition in this realm are going to stop us from expanding our ADSL2+ coverage around Australia,” he said.

Internode claimed its ADSL2+ broadband services were capable of running 16 times faster than Telstra’s fastest broadband plans.
