Telstra has launched a wave of new plans and price cuts aimed at increasing the uptake of its BigPond Wireless Broadband mobile card service.

The telco has also broadened its coverage to include regional areas such as Bundaberg, Toowomba, Wagga Wagga and Port Macquarie.

Two new time-based plans have been introduced, offering 10 hours access for $29.95 per month and 20 hours for $49.95.

Download-based plans have been cut by $20 and now begin at $49.95 a month for 200MB and end at $109.95 per month for 1GB of downloads.

Excess usage on its time based plans is priced at 80c for 5 minutes. Excess usage on MB usage plans is priced at 30c per MB.

BigPond Group managing director, Justin Milne, said in a statement that its Mobile Card service was now more affordable for consumers and small businesses seeking mobility or internet access.

"The introduction of hourly plans will appeal to those customers who want to manage the costs of their mobile broadband service," he said.

"The hourly plans will also appeal to customers who prefer to use their access on the move to check email periodically and upload files back to the office.”

BigPond now boasted wireless broadband in every capital city and 'twice-dial-up' speed for 98 percent of the population, Milne said.
