Further customers expected.

Primus Australia has signed consultancy Wave Engineering Solutions as anchor tenant to its recently upgraded commercial fibre network.

Upgraded Primus fibre attracts first customer

The telco, under new chief executive Tom Mazerski, sought to invest "millions" into its business fibre network, including upgrading its metro fibre networks in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth with optical transport network capability using Huawei technology.

Further cities are slated for upgrade in the coming months.

The ISP also plans to upgrade inter-capital links between Sydney and Melbourne next year, before moving into other "other markets" halfway through next year.

The network is capable of providing services of up to 10 Gbps to customers but can scale up to 40 Gbps bandwidth in future.

Wave Engineering Systems became the first business to take up Primus' upgraded services this week, signing onto a 1 Gbps service between its Perth headquarters and nearby data centre.

"We recently added process engineering, civil infrastructure and environmental services to our capabilities and this placed a huge demand on our IT infrastructure," said Gareth Davies, chief financial officer at Wave Engineering Solutions.

"We realised we needed faster and more robust telecommunications services that would allow us to handle customer demands and fibre was the obvious choice."
