ClubTelco boils down broadband plans to two

Unlimited plan cut by $20 a month.

ClubTelco has streamlined its fixed broadband portfolio to just two plans, slashing the price of its unlimited quota plan to compete with parent company Dodo and TPG.

The plans, offered under the same Telstra Wholesale agreement as Dodo, provide the option of 10 GB of data quota for $30 a month, or unlimited quota for $50 a month.

New users of the unlimited plan had to pay $100 in the first month and an ongoig annual membership fee of $50.

Existing ClubTelco users on the $70 unlimited plan would automatically be moved to the reduced price plan during the next billing cycle.

ClubTelco chief executive and former Dodo executive Scott Stavretis told iTnews the broadband plan revamp was an attempt to keep things "simple".

"A smaller number of plans makes the choice simple for customer," he said.

The plan changes would also likely help with average data consumption of users, he said, as users would no longer be tempted to take full advantage of their cap.

In contrast, Dodo has for some time offered an unlimited quota plan for $39.90 per month. The ISP also began offering a plan with three terabytes of quota for 5c less a month which, according to chief executive Larry Kestelman, was offered as a "joke" to show the ease of providing high-quota plans.

The plan changes came ahead of a vote of EFTel shareholders next Wednesday to approve a proposed merger with ClubTelco.
