Video: Inside Adobe's CS5.5

Adobe has launched its Creative Suite 5.5 product line, introducing new features for targeting smartphone and tablet platforms.

The April 11 launch came a year after the introduction of CS5, marking the beginning of a new, mid-cycle product release strategy for Adobe’s Creative Suite.

For businesses using freelancers regularly, Adobe has introduced an optional subscription-based pricing plan, offering the Master Collection for $162 per month for a year, or $244 on a month-to-month basis (US$129 or US$195 for US customers).

Adobe’s APAC evangelist Michael Stoddart walked iTnews through the new CS5.5 Master Collection this week.

Our verdict: a significant release set to change the way in which businesses deliver web, tablet and multimedia content.

AFTER EFFECTS:

The Warp Stabiliser feature in After Effects CS5.5 processes in the background to stabilise footage and address rolling shutter effects.

Stoddart demonstrates how handheld DSLR footage can be edited to provide the smoothness of a dolly shot.

DREAMWEAVER:

Dreamweaver CS5.5 offers HTML5 starter layouts, allowing users to quickly come to grips with W3C CSS standards and new graphical characteristics.

FLASH:

An enhanced Code Snippets panel in Flash CS5.5 allows professional developers to save pieces of frequently used code and provides new users with a starting point for learning Adobe’s ActionScript 3.

INDESIGN EPUB:

InDesign CS5.5 is pitched at designers of electronic (ePub) as well as print publications. Users can export files as ePubs to be viewed on a tablet device.

INDESIGN TABLET MAGAZINES:

Adobe’s Digital Publishing Suite is aimed at richer design documents like iPad magazines. InDesign CS5.5 provides tools for incorporating the device’s swipe and zoom capabilities.

PHOTOSHOP:

Adobe Nav allows users to drive Photoshop CS5.1 using Photoshop Touch SDK, available as a free download for Android, Blackberry and iOS mobile and tablet devices.
