Come November Gary Kovacs will be the top dog at the organisation that makes Firefox, the most convincing challenger to Microsoft's web browser, Internet Explorer.
Kovacs, a former Sybase executive, will replace Mozilla's incumbent CEO, John Lilly, who in May announced he would take a role with venture capitalist firm, Graylock Partners.
According to Mitchell Baker, chair of the Mozilla Foundation, Kovac's understanding of mobile and Macromedia/Adobe made him the ideal choice.
"Both of these areas are critical to the future of the Web," Baker said on Mozilla's official blog.
German ERP outfit SAP acquired Sybase for $6.5 billion earlier this year as part of its effort to bring SAP software to mobile devices.
