Datacom buys GlobalCenter building

Datacom Systems has paid $7.15 million for the building housing its South Melbourne data centre dubbed GlobalCenter.

Datacom Systems has paid $7.15 million for the building housing its South Melbourne data centre dubbed GlobalCenter.


The purchase was made at auction last week, completing the company’s acquisition of GlobalCenter, which began in September 2004 with its purchase of the internet data centre's operation, the company said.

Since then, Datacom spent more than $1 million upgrading GlobalCenter's existing data centre infrastructure and would invest a further $1.2 million in additional generators, UPSes, and air conditioning facilities over the next eight months.

"Owning the real estate gives us a logical platform for our ongoing investment in systems, support and technology services we offer the Victorian market through GlobalCenter," said Michael Browne, CEO at Datacom.
