The Bank of Queensland has issued a warning to customers, after discovering a fraudulent website trying to pass itself off as the bank.

It has told customers to ignore emails requesting confidential information, such as user IDs and passwords.

The warning comes after some of the bank's customers received a hoax email, which linked to a fraudulent website in China.

It has worked with the Australian High-Tech Crime Centre, the Australian Federal Police and other agencies to have the site investigated and shut down, according to a statement from the Bank of Queensland.

"This is the first time Bank of Queensland has been the victim of this type of internet fraud," it stated. "The Bank was well prepared to deal with the issue and it appears only a small number of customers have been affected."
