Man arrested for allegedly selling stolen goods on eBay

Police have arrested a man for allegedly selling stolen property on online marketplace eBay.

Detective Superintendent Ken McKay, property squad commander, said that since October 2004 the man allegedly sold online 40 alloy wheels, eight laptop computers and other valuable items.

“This investigation commenced late last year after detectives from St George identified an unusually large number of wheels and tyres being sold on eBay by the same seller,” McKay said. “Strike Force Maserati established the items listed for sale all appeared to be spare wheels and other items stolen from the boots of late model Subaru vehicles."

Alastair MacGibbon, trust and safety director at eBay, said the company had zero tolerance towards any wrongdoing.

“Where matters are being investigated by police, eBay will provide an information package including victim details, complete background information of the person under investigation and advice on what may be required for any search warrants," MacGibbon said.

“Our ability to help law enforcement in this way means that any attempt to commit wrongdoing on eBay can be more easily dealt with than other more traditional forms of offline crime.”

The 27-year-old Westmead man is expected to appear at Penrith Local Court today charged with more than 30 offences, according to a statement from NSW Police.
