DYO Services seeks resellers

Australian backup technology company DYO Services is cranking up a campaign to recruit resellers to sell its SME storage software DYObackup and has promised margins of 30 percent with the product.

The easy to use boxed software allows small business to back up their data and have these backups stored at one of two Hitachi data centres in Melbourne, Victoria.

Carmelo San Gil, director at DYO, said this year the company has been moving away from a direct sales model and was looking for resellers to sell the product.

The basic $99.90 version includes six months of off-site storage with 100MB of data. The user would pay $9 per 100MB per month, said Carmelo San Gil, director at DYO.

San Gil claimed DYO Backup opens up a whole new product category for resellers. "This is a completely new revenue stream for resellers that doesn't conflict with anything they're doing at the moment," said San Gil.

"The beauty of this program is that there are no onerous contracts and upgrading and storing data is child's play. It is a system that requires minutes to setup and is as easy as drag-and-drop. Your data/files can be retrieved at anytime from any PC using a secure encryption of military standards," he said. 

The software behind it was provided by Info-In.com, a Melbourne-based company whose shareholders include Hitachi Data Systems. It was developed in conjunction with data encryption experts at Swinburne University.

The company was also in the process of trying to secure up to $2 million in funding to generate reseller demand for the product.

According to recent research conducted by DYO in 400 Australian SMEs, 30 percent do not know in which directories their critical data was kept, and a staggering 20 percent of SMEs did not do regular backups.

DYObackup is sold through a network of 11 small distributors throughout Australia. The company recently appointed Auckland-based Intelligent Business Solutions as a new distributor for New Zealand.
