BlueFibre to build national peering network

BlueFibre has revealed plans to create a national peering network from next month.

Although still in "planning", BlueFibre managing director Matthew Byrne said the project was due to start "mid to late" April and be ready within a year.

"The benefits of doing it are that everyone likes an alternative," Byrne said.

"The ultimate goal is to get Optus and Telstra to peer in. Getting those people... would be a great advantage."

The "alternative" appeared to be in reference to the recent acquisition of one of Australia's primary existing peering networks, Pipe, which was bought by ISP TPG.

The news came after BlueFibre inked a deal with Sanity Technology to market the latter's colocation, rack services and managed services to small-to-medium enterprises.

Sanity targets the services mainly at larger-sized enterprises and Government customers.

Sanity has a tier 2/tier 3 data centre located in Fortitude Valley near Brisbane. It has a 60-rack capacity, of which a third had been fitted out and the remaining 40 racks had now been ordered.

There are plans to add another APC uninterruptible power supply unit either for the floor or in a modular configuration within the racks, which were rated to loads up to 15 kW in density.

There was also potential to expand the data centre footprint to fill the upstairs area of the building, Byrne said.
