Web giant to spend its way out of the recession.

Yahoo has shed staff and products in an effort to cut costs this year, but news has emerged that the firm is now planning to build a huge campus in Santa Clara, California.

The 42-acre plot, which Yahoo acquired three years ago, will accommodate double the number of employees housed in the company's current headquarters in Sunnyvale, California.

The new campus, which is still under planning review, will have 13 buildings, according to a report in Marketwatch, and will compare in size to Google's headquarters in Mountain View, California.

Yahoo has had a tough time during the recession, suffering a number of very public disasters, including the collapse of a search deal with Google.

The company has cut thousands of jobs in the past year, as well as products such as GeoCities, Zimbra, Hotjobs and Briefcase. Yahoo has also moved a number of operation teams abroad, such as that which facilitated Yahoo News to Taiwan.

However, things are beginning to look more cheery for the company following a new search deal with Microsoft and a widespread new advertising campaign called Yahoo Y!ou.

Yahoo could not be immediately reached for comment on the new building.
