Secretive launch of organisational tools.

Twitter has started rolling out its Lists feature to select users registered with the micro-blogging firm.

Lists, first announced early October, will let Twitter users organise their contacts into groups and keep people closely updated with select accounts of their choice.

Users can also to make their lists private if they do not want other users to know how they have organised their contact base, but otherwise the lists will be public by default to allow other users to subscribe to them.

At the moment most Twitter users will not be able to see the new feature. “You’re part of a small group receiving this feature so don’t tweet about it yet,” the firm told its beta group, according to a screen grab V3.co.uk received.

Reports have said a lists tab is appearing on the right hand side of beta user's Twitter accounts where their other details are displayed.

Users can then click on the tab and be brought to a new page where they can choose to make public or private lists or view lists they have been mentioned in.

Beta users have also said a new button has been added to the their Followers lists and so they can quickly add people to Lists they are creating.

The only problem with the service yet to be flagged is the lack of search available in order to create Lists. This means the creation of lists for those that have hundreds or thousands of followers is likely to be a time-consuming process.

A Twitter user under the profile name of msilacboeder said she had created a “coolest peeps” list that she intended to keep private.

Meanwhile, another user called FreshPeel said he was finding the public Twitter List more useful that Twitter’s tradition of FollowFriday, where Twitter users recommend to others the top five people to add to their contacts.
