Netspace has deployed 10 DSLAMs in Hobart and Launceston, bringing further competition to the Apple Isle.

The digital subscriber line access multiplexers concentrate customers' broadband ADSL lines into a single link for transmission to the mainland.

As forecast in iTnews in May, the internet service provider was in the process of fitting ADSL2+ equipment in 12 exchanges in Tasmania.

The ISP was using fibre backhaul from Aurora to connect to the exchanges.

Netspace invited Tasmanian Premier David Bartlett to the launch at Aurora's West Hobart data centre (see photo gallery to the right).

Most of the investment is focused on key Tasmanian metropolitan areas in and around Hobart and Launceston, with two exchanges enabled in each city and DSLAMs in the Hobart suburbs of New Town, Sandy Bay, Glenorchy and Claremont, another in nearby Kingston and one more across the bay in Lindisfarne.

The ISP planned to install DSLAMs in two more exchanges across the bay from Hobart's CBD, in Bellerive and Howrah.
