Sydney-based IT services reseller Unique World has launched a developer subsidiary that will target government and corporate business globally.

Eddie Geller, CEO of five year old Unique World, said the spin-off ISV -- dubbed Unique World Software -- would create branded software complementing products such as Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2003.

Unique World is a Microsoft business partner.

Two products were tipped to arrive this quarter, including TIPS SharePoint, an application which integrated SharePoint Portal Server with Tower Software's TRIM Context records and document management software.

"I have always wanted to start a software company, but the challenge was to find and create niche products that had broad appeal to global markets," Geller said in a statement.

Geller had appointed a former Microsoft staffer, French-born Christophe Dumonet, to helm Unique World Software as GM.

Dumonet worked for four years in Microsoft's emerging enterprise server business and has spent a total 10 years in Australia's IT sector, the statement said.

"[Dumonet] has held sales and management positions with IBM/Lotus and various software start-ups," it said.

"The opportunity to create a global software company in Australia is ... an incredible feeling, to get back to the grassroots of IT and be at the helm of building software from the very beginning," Dumonet was quoted as saying.

Unique World had also appointed a new commercial sales manager, Paul Dolan, to the Sydney office to support expansion of its consultancy activities.

Dolan previously ran Connect Interactive, a Microsoft call centre in Australia.
