Sun Microsystems has added an integrated LAMP stack and communications server add-on developed with Ericsson to its open source GlassFish Web platform.

The company announced additions to what it called the ‘GlassFish Portfolio' which it said would be available through subscription pricing from US$999 per server.

The main new feature of the portfolio is a fully integrated LAMP stack designed for developers wanting a light-weight Web solution.

The GlassFish Web Stack includes Tomcat, Memcached, Squid and Lighttpd with support for PHP, Ruby and the Java platform, Sun said.

Other new GlassFish components include Web Space Server, which is said to help companies simplify Web site development and build collaborative work spaces, including portals and social networking sites; an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) platform for department-scale and enterprise SOA deployments; and Enterprise Manager for management and monitoring of the GlassFish Portfolio.

Sun also announced general availability of a separate add-on to the GlassFish Portfolio called GlassFish Communications Server.

It is said to be a telecommunications-grade, open source foundation for converged multimedia applications and is based on joint development with Ericsson in the open source Project SailFin.

It enables service providers to create and deliver services like VOIP, instant messaging, IPTV, interactive gaming and other multimedia applications for a wide range of business and consumer devices, Sun said, and will be showcased at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
