ISM report shows .coms do better

Internet Search Metrics' latest report found that high street retailers are losing out dramatically to smaller, independent .coms.


The report which came out today claims that the drop in big-name retailers' success online is due to extremely bad marketing – if you’re not found easily on Google, you don’t get hits.

Results from June this year show that more than 19.3 million individual laptop searches in the UK were dominated by 10 sites, which secured 81.2 per cent of the traffic – 32.5 per cent of this belonging to Laptops Direct.

This is the same case with online high-definition TV sales, as big names like Comet have a pathetic 0.14 percent share of hits.

Brech continues to explain, "across the retailing sectors we are seeing established retailers, with significant marketing budgets, fail to make an impact in internet search. They are still failing to understand how to market themselves online, and as a result are losing significant revenues to independent and internet-savvy retailers."

Last year UK online spending was worth £46.6 billion, which is a 54 per cent increase compared with the previous year.
