Vodafone makes aggressive play for 100Mbps NBN users

Cuts $20 a month off price for six months.

Vodafone has launched aggressive promotional NBN pricing that cuts its top-tier 100Mbps product by $20 a month for six months.

The telco said today that it would discount its 100Mbps product from $89 a month to $69 a month for the first six months of what is already a month-to-month plan.

That brings the 100Mbps product in line with the pricing of the company’s 50Mbps NBN product, and comes against the backdrop of rising prices in other parts of the NBN ecosystem.

The company would not be drawn on whether there was any margin in the discounted service, nor on how much it hoped to grow its market share through the offer.

Vodafone said back in February that its NBN margins were already negligible - without discounting its retail pricing.

The company couched the fixed-term discount as a way to encourage users onto higher tier services.

“We think it’s important that customers try out the NBN100 speed and make up their own minds what speed tier works for their household,” Vodafone’s general manager of fixed line services Matthew Lobb said in a statement.

Lobb claimed that bundling other Vodafone services in with a 100Mbps service “could reduce the monthly plan fee of Vodafone Premium NBN100 down from $69 to as low as $51.20 per month for the first six months.”

The company’s existing NBN marketing says that it offers discounts of between five percent and 20 percent off NBN fees when other mobile services are bundled in.

Vodafone's 100Mbps plan reverts to $89 a month after the price promotion ends.
