Bendigo Bank outage takes down online banking

ATMs and eftpos unaffected in hours-long glitch.

Online banking is currently unavailable for Bendigo and Adelaide Bank customers, which the bank has attributed to an IT outage affecting a number of systems.

The problem was first acknowledged when the bank took to social media shortly after 6am on Wednesday, however some comments below the post indicate problems may have arisen the night before.

The bank took to social media again shortly before 10am, advising that it couldn’t provide insight as to when the outage would fixed, and that some branches’ services had also been affected.

A spokesperson for the bank told iTnews that ATMs and eftpos facilities remain operational, including the ability to withdraw cash through these services.

“Customers can also access branches for their transactions,” the spokesperson said.

Customers should feel comfortable that this will have no impact on their deposits or other investments.

As of 4pm, it appears that some customers are beginning to regain access to online banking.

Update Thursday 10:30am:

Bendigo Bank has ruled out malicious activity as the cause of the outage, and said systems were restored at 9:30pm last night.

However, intermittent issues with online banking are still affecting customers this morning.

It added that any outstanding payments were processed overnight, however transfers between banks may still take up to two days to go through.

ALERT: We are currently experiencing intermittent issues with ebanking. You are able to use our ATMs and EFTPOS facilities or visit a branch. We're working toward a fix and we will update you as soon as we can.
