Optus self-service error logs users into Vladmir's account

Telco yanks site, starts investigation.

Optus has pulled its My Account self-service portal offline as it investigates a series of reports from users that they were mistakenly logged into an account for ‘Vladmir’ instead of their own.

The My Account service was taken down for “maintenance” on Thursday night, replaced with a message that the telco was “a bit busy right now”.

“Come back soon and everything should be back to normal,” it said.

The site appeared to have been pulled offline in response to issues that a number of users reported with being logged into another user’s account.

Customers took to Optus’ social media channels in a bid to understand whether or not the telco had experienced some form of privacy breach.

“When trying to log into My Account, am presented with another customer account information - account number, mobile number, name etc. I know a lot of other people are having the same problem,” one customer said on Facebook.

Other customers posted screenshots of an account for a customer called Vladmir, which was being displayed to them in place of their own account details.

“We take these matters very seriously and our support teams are currently investigating,” an Optus representative said.
