The contenders for the annual iTnews benchmark awards are becoming clearer: in recent days week we’ve revealed finalists in the Finance category, the Industrial sector and showcased the best users emerging technologies, to go with the late 2018 reveal of State Government and Local Government finalists.
Today we reveal the three finalists in the Health category.
Melanoma Australia Secure Digital Workspace
Health data is extraordinarily sensitive, which creates a challenge for research organisation Melanoma Australia.
The organisation collaborates with researchers across Australian hospitals and universities, plus researchers in Norway, the Netherlands and Canada.
That creates the need for secure record-sharing across multiple institutions an jurisdictions, to support the goal of finding new therapies for melanoma.
The organisation previously used email and cloud storage to share data, but worried that approach lacked rigour and audit trails.
A digital workspace solution has addressed those concerns: collaborators can now only access data after it’s been encrypted and controlled by a digital rights management regime.

Uniting Care Transform Program
Uniting Care Queensland embarked on a program to improve back office service delivery, in part by revisiting its IT operations and procurement.
The resulting reformed outsourcing program has seen the organisation select a new managed services provider, adopt its service management platform to add structure to delivery of support, and build a platform from which the organisation can start to innovate and adopt technologies like artificial intelligence.

Liverpool Hospital Project ECHO telemedicine
Project ECHO is a US-derived effort to help improve hospitals’ capacity to deliver telemedicine services by educating clinicians.
Sydney’s Liverpool Hospital has participated in the project and used commercial-off-the-shelf cloud videoconferencing to educate medical staff on how to deliver care to hepatitis patients.
The Hospital estimates that the effort saved 2,600 hours and enabled it to work with many more patients from groups that are hard to reach or find it difficult to attend clinics.
The result is almost certainly lives saved thanks to staff being empowered to deliver care they previously lacked the skills to impart
