The federal government has reappointed Ziggy Switkowski as the chair of NBN Co for another three years, keeping him in the role until just prior to the slated 2020 completion of the NBN rollout.
Switkowski's current term expires on October 2. His new three-year term will commence the following day.
The reappointment comes despite Switkowski having been found to have breached caretaker conventions by publishing an opinion piece about the federal police investigation into damaging leaks of internal documents.
Switkowski started at the national network builder in October 2013 as its executive chairman, reverting to chairman and non-executive director six months later upon the arrival of current CEO Bill Morrow.
He also serves as chairman for Suncorp, and sits as a director for a number of listed businesses including Tabcorp and Oil Search. Switkowski is a former Telstra and Optus CEO.
Ministers Mathias Cormann and Mitch Fifield said Switkowski had done an "outstanding" job in his role so far.
"Along with Bill Morrow and the executive team, the Board has transformed the company and achieved a remarkable rate of growth in the rollout," Cormann and Fifield said in a statement.
