Optus outage downs Virgin Australia's check-in system

Long queues across the country.

Virgin Australia passengers across the country were prevented from checking in for domestic flights for two hours this morning after an outage at the airline's telco partner Optus downed its check-in system.

The outage hit Virgin's Sabre check-in system at around 7am this morning following a server outage at Optus.

It resulted in long queues of passengers waiting to check in and forced back the flight departure times of aircraft across the country's domestic airports by up to 90 minutes.

The Optus outage was resolved at around 9am, bringing Virgin's check-in system back online. Check-in queues progressively returned back to normal in the following hours.

"All Virgin Australia check-in systems are up and running as per usual. We did have some intermittent issues this morning, but these have now been resolved. We apologise for any inconvenience caused," a spokesperson said.

"We understand Virgin Australia manually applied back-up to handle ticket processing," an Optus spokesperson said.

"Optus apologises to Virgin Australia passengers affected by the temporary outage and are working with our technology vendors regarding this issue."
