Optus will use its new 700MHz and 2600MHz spectrum to bring 4G services to up to 200 new locations around the country over the next six months.
Optus, along with Telstra, was granted an early access license to the 700MHz spectrum it won in the 2013 federal digital dividend auction in late July, ahead of the spectrum's official launch in January next year.
The telco has also been testing 4G services on 2600MHz spectrum - similarly secured in the digital dividend auction - since January this year.
The 2600MHz spectrum will be made available by the Australian Communications and Media Authority for use from this month.
Optus today announced around 200 locations across regional and holiday areas would be upgraded to 4G technology over the next six months, as part of Optus' plan to blanket 90 percent of the Australian population with 4G by April 2015.
4G services using 2600MHz have already been turned on in areas of Ballarat, Cairns, Port Macquarie and Port Augusta, Optus said, with 30 more locations to come on board from next week.
While many mobile devices on the market currently support the 2600MHz spectrum, only four are currently compatible with 700MHz - specifically the iPhone 6, the Samsung Galaxy S5, the LG G3, and the HTC One (M8).
Locations included under the planned rollout can be viewed on Optus' coverage map.
