Kordia offers direct connect to Amazon cloud

Low latency promised to NZ customers.

Telecommunications and networking company Kordia is the latest to offer a 'Direct Connect' fibre-optic interconnection to the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud hosted within the Equinix data centre in Sydney.

A Direct Connect connection helps users bypass the public internet to connect to the web services cloud at high speed.

Bandwith options ranging from 1 megabit/s to 1 gigabit/s are available, and the connection can be either via private peering or direct link.

The service is also available for New Zealand customers through Kordia's OnKor wide area network connectivity via a virtual local area network or VLAN configuration.

According to Kordia's chief technology officer Aaron Olphert, the roundtrip latency for the Direct Connect service is expected to be 25 to 30 milliseconds.

This, Olphert says, provides AWS-connected users with an experience that is "almost as good as if the servers were in their building rather than in Australia."

Olphert referred to Amazon's AWS website for pricing and further details on ordering Direct Connect.

Other organisations offering a Direct Connect include Vocus, Megaport and Bulletproof.

Hear more about data centre connectivity at the Australian Data Centre Strategy Summit at the Gold Coast Marriott on March 18-20. Tickets are still available.
