UNSW launches student CTF comp

@Ruxcon tickets, cash on offer.

The University of NSW has launched a competition to test the security chops of students across the fields of web applications, reverse engineering and forensics.

Over 24 hours, teams of TAFE, high school and university students will undergo a capture the flag contest to win three prises including $1000, $500 and $250 in cash and tickets to the popular Ruxcon security conference in Melbourne.

“The challenges students will face involve reverse engineering of programs and protocols, exploiting vulnerabilities in desktop and web applications, and elevating privileges on computer systems,” the university said in a statement.

“The competition will take place in a controlled environment with intentionally vulnerable applications.”

It was aimed at students of all capability levels who must register in teams of up to four from any school, uni or TAFE

The competition sponsored by Securus Global and Ruxcon begins 28 September. More details online.
