National Australia Bank has effectively split the role of chief information officer in two under a reshuffle brought about by the internal move of its NextGen enterprise transformation project lead.
Christine Bartlett's transition from executive program director for NextGen to executive general manager of asset servicing in NAB's Wholesale Banking division prompted a reorganisation of the way NextGen, IT strategy and day-to-day IT operational responsibilities are divided up at the bank.
Bartlett's NextGen responsibilities will shift primarily to Adam Bennett, whose previous role of chief information officer has been carved in two.
Bennett is now executive general manager of enterprise transformation, where he takes on primary responsibility for driving NextGen, but also retains the IT strategy responsibilities from the CIO role.
He will, however, hand off the day-to-day management of IT that was previously part of being NAB's CIO to Denis McGee, who takes the title of chief technology officer.
McGee was most recently general manager for application development and testing.
All technology staff report into Gavin Slater, the group executive of Group Business Services.
Bartlett and Bennett both reported to Slater previously, meaning the latter's reporting line does not change.
A NAB spokeswoman also confirmed to iTnews that Slater would not be handing off the technology aspects of his broad remit under the reshuffle.
NAB has been looking to replace its core banking systems and retire more than 100 legacy applications since embarking on the NextGen transformation program in 2008.
