Tech firms make best workplaces

Annual list dominated.

Technology firms have taken eight of the top ten positions in BRW's annual list of best places to work.

Melbourne-based IT services firm OBS landed top rank in this year's list, after being camped in the top ten since the list began in 2009.

Managing director Andy Neumann said the ranking was recognition of its "great" and "dynamic employees".

"Companies who embrace new technology attract the best people in their industry, becoming leaders in their field," he said.

"But what you do on a day to day basis to help employees engage is also important. Little things that make staff feel welcome and appreciated, can happen with automated processes and make sure you're on the ball, engaging with your employees."

Storage firm NetApp Australia landed in second spot, ahead of perennial favourite Google, which took out third.

Also in the top ten were search engine optimisation firm e-Web Marketing, business intelligence consultancy Altis Consulting, Salesforce.com, Canberra IT services firm Cordelta, and Atlassian.

The only non-IT firms to make the top ten were a physiotherapy and recruitment firm. The latter has a technology recruiting division.

Outside the top ten, the list broadened somewhat but still had its share of technology stars.

Anti-virus maker McAfee Australia fell just outside the top ten, at 11th place; information management services firm C3 Business Solutions was 18th; large Microsoft partner Readify landed in 27th spot and Kiandra IT in 29th.

Vendors Juniper Networks (39th), Hitachi Data Systems (42nd), SAS Australia (44th), Thoughtworks (45th) and Check Point (46th) also rated mentions.
