Last of five mainland sites "officially" opened .

NBN Co has expanded trials of fibre connections in the first release site of Willunga, South Australia.

The company today officially launched the network with Communications Minister Stephen Conroy and NBN Co CEO Mike Quigley visiting the site.

NBN Co has held similar official launches for other first release sites on the mainland.

"Willunga is the fifth and final first release site for NBN Co to officially go live on the Australian mainland," Quigley said.

The extended trial of fibre in the area would run until October, when customers would be asked to pay for services from their ISP.

"Around 150 customers have already been connected as part of the trial in Willunga, and other service activations are in the queue," NBN Co said in a statement.

Willunga has 940 premises in the fibre area.

Internode has been particularly active in gaining trial connections.

It claimed the first trial connection in June - the CEO of a broadband device distributor - and has since also connected Office & Image, VANREE Software and Willunga High School.
