Review: Check Point Endpoint Security R80

Comprehensive endpoint security features in a single agent, but backend administrative tasks are spread across multiple applications.

Check Point Endpoint Security and Data Protection is a modular-based, client/server endpoint architecture made up of various "software blades," which provide various types of endpoint security protection. The tool can be deployed to Windows-based computers with some or all of the components. Management is accomplished through a single backend architecture based on Windows server devices and a database.

The solution overall is very modular, and organizations can unlock whichever blades are needed. The available types of protections are abundant and all are managed through one unified agent. The various components include full-disk encryption, encryption of removable devices, firewall, anti-virus/application control, web browsing protection and remote access VPN.

The features and protections across each module are robust, and policies for each are managed through a single administrative interface. The backend architecture is easy to use, and we installed the solution quickly.
For example, a separate program is included for packaging agent distributions, as well as a separate executable for developing reports. Overall, this isn't too burdensome, as the solution is pieced together very well through an easy-to-use interface.

Documentation is excellent and is available in PDF files or right within the console itself. Standard nine-hours-a-day/five-days-a-week support is included with annual subscription costs. We noted that the solution price point scales very well with the inclusion of more or all of the features.

Modular endpoint security solution that provides flexible and robust protection across many defense-in-depth components. The R80 is our Best Buy.
