Internode brings broadband to more housing estates

Internode brings broadband to more housing estates

New $99 router deal also stitched up.

ISP Internode has struck a deal with greenfields fibre network operator OPENetworks to offer retail internet services into at least one new housing estate.

Product manager Jim Kellett told iTnews the deal, inked yesterday, would see Internode offer the same plans it offers in estates cabled by Opticomm to residents of Lakeside Pakenham, about 55 kilometres from Melbourne.

Kellett said the ISP was also looking to offer broadband services in another OPENetworks estate, the Queensland estate of Varsity Lakes.

Both estates are being developed by Delfin, which is owned by Lend Lease.

"The cool thing about OPENetworks is - we're applying the same model as in Opticomm estates," Kellett said.

"The products are exactly the same in terms of speed, quota, price and the telephony service that rides along with it."

The OPENetworks tie-up was Internode's fourth when it came to the ISP's growing fibre business.

Internode also offers services on fibre networks owned by Opticomm, NBN Tasmania and Telstra (Point Cook).

Internode joins Fuze Connect and gotalk as retail internet providers at Lakeside.

New router deal

Kellett said the ISP had also inked a new supply deal that would see it offering a Netcomm residential wireless router capable of supporting 100 Mbps connections.

The new router would cost $99 - far less than the $229 cost of an Apple Airport Extreme, which Internode had been recommending for users accessing its fibre services.
