Phoenix acquires Marketing Results

By Byron Connolly on Jan 1, 2000 12:00AM
Sydney-based wholesaler Phoenix IT Distribution has acquired the remains of Quadtel subsidiary Marketing Results, which was placed into voluntary administration in May.

The company has purchased a high volume of stock (hardware, software and peripherals) and claimed it would fill a gap in the retail market caused by the demise of the Quadtel subsidiary.

Phoenix said it is in negotiations with several of Marketing Results' vendor agencies including Panda Software, Scansoft, Nova Development, NTI and Transparent Languages with a view to securing new product re-publishing and distribution contracts.

“The company is also planning to strike new distribution deals with other vendors and resellers and is currently inviting enquiries from interested parties,” according to a statement.

Phoenix is owned and run by Mark York, the managing director of IT merchandising company M&M Marketing, former Harvey Norman franchisee and business development manager for Marketing Results.

York has retained several Marketing Results' staff members. Phoenix is well placed to quickly become a major player in the Australian computer reseller channel market, York claimed.

“We have a solid team in place, we have a warehouse overflowing with stock and we're in the process of securing distribution deals with several leading vendors and resellers. Essentially our strategy is to capitalise on the strengths of Marketing Results without inheriting its weaknesses,” he said.

In the meantime, the fate of Quadtel Limited subsidiary, Quadtel International--which is also in administration--will be decided at a creditor's meeting on Monday, said Giles Woodgate of administrator Woodgate and Co. “Creditors will decide whether to enter into a deed of company arrangement,” he said.

If a resolution is not passed for the deed, Quadtel International will go into liquidation, Woodgate said.

iTnews will update this story as more information becomes available.
