  Editor's Note

Good morning,

The 'app economy' has broadened the accessibility of software development, to the point where many coders are doing very well without foundational IT training.

That's come at some cost to IT security. In recent months we've opined about what Heartbleed, Apple's GoTo Fail bug and other vulnerabilities suggest about the state of software development, and reported on research that reveals a ton of bugs hidden in re-usable software libraries.

Today's lead story acknowledges that software developers aren't motivated to consider security in the rush to get apps out the door. In acknowledging this, the IEEE proposes the best path to security is to provide developers with secure libraries from trusted parties to begin with.

While that might lead to more secure code in the short-term, will it only exacerbate the problem in the long-term and create a generation of lazy coders? I'm interested in your thoughts on this.

Everyone, honestly, thank ASIC for actually being honest in their submission. It shows how demonstrably broken s313 is.
