EDITOR'S NOTE

Good afternoon,

Today I dig into the numbers to look at how often Commonwealth Government agencies skirt procurement guidelines. I hope to raise a discussion: How much money could taxpayers save if more of those deals were contested in the open market?

In breaking news, Google has announced a new ANZ chief, whilst Vint Cerf has called for action on IPV6 during his keynote address at Linux.conf.au. You can read all the big stories from LCA2011 here on iTnews.

On a lighter note, you may have laughed over the Christmas break at the CIA setting up a WikiLeaks Task Force (WTF). But that's by no means the first ridiculous acronym to come out of the industry - our regular telco columnist David Havyatt noted this one in the Sydney Morning Herald's Column 8 this week:

"The Australian Communications Industry Forum [once] formed a committee called the Electronic Information Exchange (Inter-Operator), or EIE(IO). The first person nominated to serve on the committee was a Mr McDonald."

Have a great Australia Day!

This choice is basically saying that we want everyone to use Microsoft Office, and in order to use it, you mostly need to have a Microsoft Windows. And I am I can justify this choice because I can ..."
