EDITOR'S NOTE

Good afternoon,

Today we have tried to answer the question - did the NBN rollout plan influence votes in the Federal Election?

Senator Conroy and NBN Co CEO Mike Quigley insisted that the first and second release sites were chosen on the basis of technical considerations rather than marginal seats.

In any case, the results are in - and the promise of high speed broadband doesn't appear to have given the ALP much of a boost outside of Tasmania, where users are already connecting to services.

Separately, a poll of 200 iTnews readers found that two in three preferred the ALP's broadband plan to the Coalition's, but one in five said broadband wouldn't influence their vote.
