Akamai has confirmed yesterday's reports by ISPs of big traffic on their Akamai servers - sustained increases of up to 12 per cent on normal levels, in fact.

Although they were unable to do the 1+1, it appears to confirm speculation that Windows 7 downloads really worked over the local internet infrastructure yesterday.

Akamai also made some interesting comparisons with the streaming of the Obama inauguration - is Windows 7 bigger news than the U.S. president? We'll let you be the judge...
