EDITOR'S NOTE

Good afternoon,

The Federal Government has blamed contractor AusCERT for losing subscriber information for its Stay Smart Online Alert service. The Government says there is no immediate threat to users' security, but neither it nor AusCERT would reveal how passwords were encrypted.

And US authorities will shortly shut down temporary servers keeping 250,000 internet connections - including 6000 in Australia - alive in the face of DNSChanger malware. Telstra is expected to keep most Aussie connections alive through a temporary DNS redirect.
