EDITOR'S NOTE

Good afternoon,

Australian organisations have welcomed a new set of data breach guidelines issued by the Australian Information Commissioner today in the absence of mandatory data breach notification laws.

Privacy Commissioner Timothy Pilgrim says the guidelines recommend "when you should notify [customers] and when you shouldn't", in response to concerns that individuals may overlook more serious breaches if they are warned of too many low-severity incidents.
