EDITOR'S NOTE

Good afternoon,

The Government could bring forward consideration of laws mandating notification of company data breaches "if there is evidence that the problem is growing".

Some say mandatory notification could lead to unnecessary outrage if consumers and shareholders fail to differentiate between negligence, trivial and non-trivial breaches.

Others say mandatory notification will provide lawmakers with more information to benchmark best practices and draft better laws.

What do you think?
