EDITOR'S NOTE

Good afternoon,

This week's GovCamp and GovHack conferences shared an underlying theme: public sector data is a precious but under-exploited resource.

The time is ripe for a more sustained approach to setting standards and traction for for the Government's data portal, data.gov.au. We trust the new owner of the data portal, the Office of Spatial Policy, delivers on its promise to be a leader in areas over and above its geospatial remit.
