Gateway reviews offer Federal and State agencies a glib way to track high-risk IT projects, but a recent audit has revealed how such arrangements can be open to ploys and practices that undermine what they claim to scrutinise.

The Audit Office's report suggests that the governance of these reviews need more attention. Perhaps we need better incentives to promote agencies to excel other than report cards.
